So on my break, I randomly did a search for Osaka and San Francisco (since they are sister cities and are celebrating 50 years of being sister cities) and found out that there are only three Japantowns in the United States. All which reside in CALIFORNIA: Japantown in San Francisco, Japantown in San Jose, and Little Tokyo in Los Angeles.

It was randomly interesting.

So I have access to two of the Japantowns in the nation. It sounds really cool and unique but sometimes, I wish that wasn't the case. Maybe because I live in an area that has many diverse ethnic groups and things are more readily available so I wouldn't probably consider very many places to move to. I remember talking to [livejournal.com profile] shinigamitabris about it and how her and [livejournal.com profile] lady_gemma were amazed at all the asian stores.

But then again, I was all :O over the cotton fields when I visited [livejournal.com profile] shinigamitabris in Alabama.

Now I'm just rambling. ^_^ Almost time to go home and burn some of my pretty Japanese incense! makes me wish I did get the w-inds. incense when we were at the concerts! D:

dude, anytime you want a little cultural exchange, feel free to come visit Pennsylvania. There is hershey park! and whoopie pies.

Maybe we can see if we can co-visit next summer? Like i visit you for a week, you visit me for a week? so we could fly the middle plane ride together if we worked it right.

like a fandom foreign exchange XD

confession: i have never found california very diverse. 50% asian doesn't strike me as being terribly diverse, is all..

Hmmm.....true to a point. But I since I do separate the Koreans from the Vietnamese from the Hmong from the Japanese from the Hmien from the Chinese from the Indian from the Cambodian like I separate the Moraccan from the German from the Italian from the Scandanavian from the Russian from the Bulgarian and so forth, it makes it diverse from a perspective.

I also guess it depends on where in the bay area you travel to or stay in and socialize in.

i guess i am really only talking from a berkeley campus POV. there are chinese blah blah groups and korean blah blah groups, but mostly it's "asian business association," and "asian and pacific islanders ____" and they essentially constitute one community on campus. *shrug* people talk especially about the diversity of berkeley, but... come on. 90% of the campus is liberal, in some form or another, and at least 50% is asian. something like .3% of the student body is black, and there are probably a similar number of indians. how is THAT diverse?

I didn't realize the Bay Area had two of the only three Japantowns in the US.

You know we have cotton fields in Cali, yeah?

Ya, but we keep those on the other side of the mountains, so they're like a million miles away.

Heh, I remember being really embarrassingly excited to actually see a bayou. But then I got my revenge when my friend, who's from Texas, excitedly asked if you really actually got to stand up on public transit. She'd never ridden a bus in her life.
