BPAL: life never smelled so good.
Oct. 19th, 2006 03:44 pmSo I was squeeing at
lizardspots and
kerryblaze about Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab and all their wonderful perfume oils. It then occurred to me that I hardly ever talk about this silent obsession of mine. I talk about HP, about life, the Fishbot, w-inds./WaT, and the many other things that just randomly cross my mind but never about perfume.
I caved into the obsession almost a year ago (a year in November! XD ) and bought some imps on (the now defunct)
alchemylab to satisfy my curiosity. Imagine my surprise when I received some imps from the A Demon in My View (their homage to Edgar Allen Poe's scents) as well as a few from the Yule 2005 update that I absolutely loved them. I'm a picky, picky scent person. I really am. It took me months to decide that I really liked Armani's Mania or whether or not Vera Wang's latest scent was better than Alfred Sung's Shi. Little did I know that 'Nuclear Winter' from BPAL would trounce all and become my favorite all time scent.
Little by little, the wonderful people that are your fellow addicts/sniffers help pull me in deeper and deeper into the madness by offering sales and swaps and decant circles. And then I found more scents that I adore, each different and perfect for a particular mood or event. Nuclear Winter whenever I felt like it. Queen of Spades or Queen of Clubs for those parties that you want to feel glamourous for, Blood Countess for when I felt like a scheming vixen in a tight corset, La Fee Verte for those lazy Sunday afternoons, Dreamland at nights to help me sleep when insomnia was my best friend and bedmate, Holiday Moon/Budding Moon/Dragon Moon for the times I'm just kickin' back with friends, Spooky for when I want to be in a baking mood and not bake anything at all, a dab of Blue Moon when I want to feel like a million dollars, or Smut/Red Lantern for the nights I'm going out to a bar and shakin' the tailfeather. Each different and unique. And nearly ALL Limited Editions.
Did I mention that I'm an LE (limited edition) h0r?
Oh yeah. I like the expensive/rare stuff. *flips hair back*
With the exception of Blood Countess (which my adored
tm_nicholas got for me ♥)and Sundew, every bottle I own are all Limited Editions. And I like it that way. I know for a fact that a bottle will last me a very long time since I dab the oils on. My skin doesn't drink in the oils but a few dabs will last me most of the day. I can go through a sample vial in about 2 months or so. That's 1mL of perfume oil. I know other lovely ladies who go through 1mL of perfume within a week or two and get the same effect that I do. It's all a matter of your skin chemistry so it's good to try. There are some scents that will linger the entire day after I dab and others that will disappear within a few hours.
You will get 5mL of perfume if you order a bottle from BPAL. Or you can order Imp's Ears (or Imps for short) of their general catalog, which is a great way to try many different perfume oils for a relatively inexpensive price. Or if you are like me and want to try all the Limited Editions but don't have the money nor the inclination to buy bottles, you can join a decant circle on
sinandsalvation to buy Imps. Lovely people are always selling their unloved imps/bottles
sinandsalvation or
bpalmarketplace. Those two comms are the major ones I look at. There are several more but I am lazy and always look at S&S. Or you can have friends (like me!) sell you decants of whatever they have and willing to part with.
When you get addicted (yes, when. Not if. when.), there's a lovely community called
bpalanonymous in which you can babble at other understanding addicts about BPAL and how it perks your day up to know you're smelling good or cry when you spill an imp/bottle. The support system in that comm is absolutely fabulous (even if I lurk like crazy and do absolutely nothing but send good vibes).
There's absolutely no rush to try all the perfumes. Try as many or as little as you want. There will be scents that you will hate. There will be ones you absolutely love. There will be ones that you want just for the themes (like Lunacy oils! Celestials! The Order of the Dragon! Carnival Diabolique! Lupercalia! and etc.) and others that you want because the concept is just so damn cool. (i.e. Monster Bait: Underpants)
The point of it all is try the perfumes and have some fun with it. You'll find that different scents will fit your moods (like I did!). I'm a fickle scent person but when I find one I like, I really like it. I also tend to rotate my scents. Some days, I'll wear a scent in the morning and another at night. Or I won't wear any at all except Dreamland to help with the insomnia. Or I'll pick a different scent each day. It's a nice reminder whenever you're working so hard through the day to stop and smell something you like. It's like....a pretty flower on your desk or a warm smile from the cute barista at your favorite coffee shop. And it's always flattering when friends tell you smell really good. (I felt all warm and fuzzy when
rogue_ravnos told me she liked my current scent du jour, Midnight on the Midway from the Carnival Diabolique collection. ^___^)
Even if you don't want to try any of the perfume oils for a while, do have a looksee at BPAL. I simply adore Beth's (the master creator herself) descriptions of the scents. I love reading them since many offer tidbits of lore, history, whimsy, and the language is just so interesting. I've learned a lot just from reading as well as doing more explorations on the various subjects of the descriptions. The artwork is simply gorgeous as well. For all you beautiful artists on my f-list, check out Jennifer Williamson's artwork for the Carnival Diabolique collection as well as some of the clothing for Black Phoenix Trading Post.
I know I've silentlyor not so silently, in Tabris' case enabled people to BPAL but I've enabled a lot of them simply by wearing them and showing them my small tin of perfumes I carry with me to dab on whenever I'm in the mood.
I'm easily pleased by the little things in life. BPAL and their gorgeous perfumes are just one of them. Now if I can get you all to fall in love with w-inds. or make you all come visit me and give me hugs, my life will be that much better. But I ♥ you all. So go and look. And then tell me if you like it or not, if you want to try, if you want to blame me for being enabled (cuz I'll like it like that. ^_~ ), or to tell me about something to enable me as payback (trust me. I'm easily enabled. I fell for Arashi (JPop boyband) and House MD after resisting for months).
Hopefully, my next post will be babbling over something else. Like JPop. Or request for American Pop/Alternative/hip hop music. Because I need some to balance out all the INSANE AMOUNT of JPop/Jrock I just downloaded. ^_^
And my order from cdjapan.com will be here sooooon. Keita's Michishirube, GLAY's G4, and Boogie Woogie 66 will be in my hot little hands this weekend. Just in time to enable some friends at YCon. *___*like
sintari and
shudaizi *rubs hands gleefully*
P.S. To the absolutely wonderful
visionshadows, I received Voodoo Queen a week or two ago and finally tried it. OMG. I am in LOVE with this scent. *_* Thank you so much for sending it to me! ♥ ♥ ♥!!!

I'm currently contemplating Creepy (cuz I love spooky!), Snowflakes, Snow Maiden (for some reason, anything with the word SNOW from BPAL works reaaaaaaaaaaaaally well on me), Pumpkin Queen, and a few others.
My potential order is over $100.
Even though I've spent more than $250 onceno subject
