bad things
Jun. 9th, 2003 04:39 pmjust got home from work a little bit ago.
my coworker's parents live in fiji. her mom stopped by to stay for a month or two to spend time with the her and her siblings. well, her mom left on friday to go back to fiji. my coworker just found out last nite that her dad was in the hospital. apparantly, he was at home alone. he had sent the workers that work in the plantation around the house home early so he was by himself for the evening. he was upstairs listening to the radio and all the power goes off. he goes downstairs to see if anyone was there. the next thing he knows, he's being beaten by four masked men. the men took everything of value...furniture, paintings, silverware, everything and left her dad there. her dad didn't fight back and basically told them they can take all the stuff. but they decided to beat him up first. so, her dad had to drag himself to another house to be able to telephone for help since the masked men had also cut off the phone lines as well. he did this with a broken leg and a broken back.
he is now being treated for his injuries and my coworker's mom arrived in fiji on sat. and found out about it. he didn't want her to worry while she was on the flight. i guess, he didn't want her to freak out...i know i would! her mom called her brother on sat. nite. my coworker didn't get the message because she was moving into her new apartment. she had spent the nite at her apt. and then came back to her bro's (where she was living with before the move) house to pick up the rest of her things.
she is very thankful (and so is the rest of the staff) that her dad is ok. he can't walk for a while and her family is making provisions to fly to fiji to help out. i'm very glad he's okay. it feel surreal, like we're watching a movie after hearing all the details. it sucks that they beat him up...why do they have to do that? i'm glad i live in a country that has a stricter justice system than other countries. i don't know what i would do if i was placed in that situation. i admire his bravery and courage. i pray that he gets well quickly and that it doesn't happen again.
isn't that shocking? i hope never to hear something like that to happen to anyone i know...whether i dislike them or not. i hope those thieves rot in hell and karma will bite them HARD in the ass.
