What do you guys do to cheer yourself up when you wake up utterly depressed?

Hm, nice description of my mornings for the past while... Not sure if any of this will work for you, but what I do is:

1. Take a vitamin B complext suppliment. These vitamins control stress and emotions, and are water-soluable, so it's easy to wash them all out of the system if you're not putting more back in. (I seem to have a deficiency on something in the complex that manifests during times of stress. It means that when I'm down on B vitamins, I'm depressed. If I take a suppliment, suddenly everything is fine.)

2. Take it as a sign that today is a good day to just take it easy, kick back, and focus on doing fun stuff.

3. I'm not sure how to explain this without sounding really goody-two shoes, but... Try to find things to be grateful for. This isn't one of those "oh, you must be grateful for food on the table and a roof over your head" kind of almost forced grateful. Just... find things that you are happy to have in your life, and experience being happy about them. (It's kind of like doing things you enjoy, only much smaller scale.)

4. Remember that your friends are going to take you out for your birthday on Saturday and tell you how wonderful you are! :)

5. Get to bed earlier tonight, make sure to eat good, regular meals, and lay off the sugar. Which takes some of the fun out of life, but tends to help fix the depression.

I don't know if any of this works for you, but it's what I use to get through. *hugs* Are you going to be up for puppy piling on Friday?

I like your icon. That's really cute! :)

vitamin d too, esp in the winter days. less light = less vitamin d. those up north get SAD much worse, so it's possible that here we're still affected somewhat. especially on those really grey overcast days that's hard to wake up to.

like today.

Yup, Vitamin B is something that we ladies blaze through in a day-- it's tied with our mood, skin, hair, and reproductive health. It should be something that every woman should keep up with, especially because we need it more when we're stressed or exercise.

I don't wake up utterly depressed, as that would require conscious thought. My bleh usually hits me in the afternoons.

Yey, birthday! And we'll see you on Sunday for Fanime, right? I'll give you a prezzie then.

First, I look at kittens. http://www.kittenbreak.com.

Then, I make myself some tea, sit down, and read Hothead Paisan: Homocidal Lesbian Terrorist.

If I'm more sad than angry, I get a small piece of dark chocolate and watch cartoons, preferably while swaddled in blankets.

Macaroni and cheese seems to help, too. Although I can't really say why.

Aw! I hate days like that. ♥♥

If I can - do stuff that's just for me for the entire day. Go drink tea and waste time in book store reading silly fiction or all sorts of astrology and numerology stuff.

Go get a manicure or pedicure, or have my hair blown out or do a little retail therapy - buy something little I've been coveting for a while.

Call someone who I know usually has positive energy and cheers me up. I'll try to spend a meal with them or just time on the phone.

If the weather is horrific or depressing, I'll try to watch a movie that either suits my mood and have a good cry or is completely contrary to it and will distract me. Chocolate and/or ice cream is always good to have on hand for this too.

I wait for the first opportunity I have and go back to sleep and avoid the rest of the world as much as I can.

And your icon is the cutest thing ever!

I don't know how you feel about herbal medicines, but St. John's Wort helps me a lot when I hit a real low.

Copious amounts of chocolate.

For a more long term solution, exercise.

I... go back to sleep
-take a walk, if it isn't terrible outside. It helps clear my mind.

-listen to Baek Ji Young's album, "Smile" :]

-take a shower w/ my mint-rosemary shampoo (it makes my head feel tingly! :D No idea how this is connected to depression, though...)

-do something that I've wanted to do for a while, but never had the time to. It helps make me feel accomplished, like I am meeting my own goals, a bit at a time. (My depressions are usually because I feel helpless & like I am wasting my life.)

-turn being depressed into some kind of joke/ramble/mental conversation, enough so that I forget why or if I was even depressed at all. (HAH, I'm depressed? That's crazy-talk. Why would I be depressed? I'm so silly at times. Silly? I'm not nearly as silly as some other people. Hm. I think I'll do something silly/spontaneous today! :D)
