hey all. hope y'all had a good halloween weekend.

as for me...lots of plans bit the dust this weekend. it was all up in the air but we eventually didn't do the things we had planned for the weekend. i didn't even dress up although i bought a costume. ah well, next year!

i found out that a friend received some really bad news, so katrina and i ditched our plans and stayed at her place with him. keeping him company while we scrapbooked away for a close friend's birthday.

When i got home that nite, i couldn't sleep (yeah, i know, damn insomnia) so i stayed up and watched the international channel (which had some japanese videos playing!) when i received a phone call for my mom. I woke her up and after their brief conversation, i learned that an uncle in Vietnam passed away from liver cancer just a few hours prior to the call.

i can't say that i'm grief-stricken but i am definately shaken. it's strange to lose a relative you barely know but it's sad to lose someone you're related to and never got the chance to know. all i knew was that it depressed me a little. it brought of memories of my grandmothers and it kinda hurt.

i went to bed, numb.

sunday, katrina and i went to church. afterwards, we went to my place to cut up some persimmons and get stuff to go to Santana Row to play some poker. Well, she played with some friends while i tried to study and make flash cards for my japanese lessons. Sis picked me up around 6:15pm and took me home (thanks sis!) and we ate with Mom before i jetted off to my Japanese tutoring session at Liz and Jimmy's place. We actually got trick-or-treaters this year!!! compared to last year (we had NONE), this year was a good year! My parents gave away Fruit Snacks instead of candy. Mom doesn't like candy while at Liz's place, she bought a TON of reese's peanut butter cups (on sale for under 10 cents each!) and only had 10 trick-or-treaters come by.

Learned some kanas (this is the third lesson) and talked about some things. It was fun. It's nice to learn a language on a one-on-one (or in my case, one-on-two) basis. twas fun. learned a lot more and learning bits and pieces of chinese while i'm at it. after learning japanese, i'm going back to learn how to read and write/speak in vietnamese as well as french. :-D

overall, a very chill weekend with grieving overtones. my weekends can't always be happy and fun-filled. *sad smile* hopefully, the rest of weekends for the year are much more cheerful.
