great sun, best friend, fabulous wine
Apr. 14th, 2004 04:49 pmyup...so i made it back home from napa.
Let me tell you that it was a FABULOUS trip out there. Perfect weather. Sunshine all day long. A beautiful B&B. GREAT food and even better wine. it was just nice to sit there and not do a whole lot.
It started out with me hecticly trying to get out of work early on Good Friday. I kept hitting patches of stupid drivers while on the way up to Napa. Bestest was already there and had proceeded to take a bubble bath.
I get there and the inn was ADORABLE. Our room was just fabulous. I loved it and I was really sad to leave on Sunday.
When I arrived, they had started to do a wine tasting with Laird Estates. I dropped all my bags in the room and sat down for some great wine. Bestest and I looked at each other and we agreed (mentally...u know..the way best friends communicate) that we would be visiting this winery the next day to pick up our favorite wines of the night. After the tasting, we wandered around downtown and had dinner at Tuscany's. Great food. Very very good. I would totally recommend it. The night ended and we settled down and chilled.
The next morning, the massage therapists (a guy and girl) arrived at our room at 8am for our "massage and breakfast in bed" package. :-D it was fascinating to see them put together the massage table! I totally want one now! The massage was pretty awesome. Only bad thing was my allergies! After all they left, we had breakfast brought up to the room and got ready to head out.
Our first stop, I picked. I've been wanting to go to Hakusan to pick up some great Sake. So we get there and spent some money on their award-winning Plum Sake and their Raspberry Sake. The other sakes were good too...but I loved their dessert sakes. Just had to buy them!
Next stop was at Laird Family Estates to pick up some Carneros Chardonnay and Dyer Ranch Syrah. Absolutely fabulous wine. A must have in my budding collection.
Our third stop was one of accident and whim. We were driving along and decided to go through the arch for Domaine-Chandon. The area was absolutely gorgeous! We were hungry and decided to go to the restaurant to eat. FABULOUS food. I cannot emphasis that enough. Definately one of the places I will keep coming back to on future trips. Beautiful scenery and great people. Met some cool new people there.
As our day progressed, we definately wanted to hit up Niebaum-Coppola to pick up some of that lovely sparkling wine that Ford Coppola named after his daughter. It was a beautiful place to visit. Right next to the Mondavi vineyard, it had a beautiful visitor area. Needless to say, we picked up some more great wine and took lots of pictures!
Our last winery of the day (mind you, these tasting rooms close between 5-6pm) is Cosentino Winery. Their award-winning CigarZin had Bestest and I LOVING it. I also liked one of their Chardonnay for the mere simple reason that it smells and tastes like green apples. The lingering taste is very much like what you would get after eating a green apple. Tart and delicious! Needless to say, I got a bottle of that!
We finally made our way back to the inn with our loot. We ended up going out for dinner at this awesome hole in the wall called Kelly's No Bad Days on Pearl St. GREAT food. The place is decorated with a huge sense of fun and cheesiness. There was a pair of those cheesy plastic glasses with a huge nose attached to them laying on the counter in front of us. I just grabbed them and put them on and cheesed as hard as I could. It was a very fun atmosphere with Kelly herself being a funny chef. The restaurant definately reflected her fun personality!
After all that, back to the inn we went. I lazed around in a bubble bath while bestest watched a movie. Packing took very little time and we were both sad to know that we were leaving. Next mornin' came around and bestest left early to beat her parents to Davis. I lazed around, eating a scrumptious breakfast downstairs, and got ready to leave. The trip back home wasn't all that bad and left me eager to come back to Napa for more fabulous times.
and that my dear friends, is my Napa trip.....
with that said, anyone else want to go to Napa with me!? :-D
