Apr. 15th, 2005 09:56 amokay. so i was thinking. (yes, i know. it's a terrible habit. i'm trying to quit. =-P ) I was thinking about what sort of things cheer me up whenever I feel sad/depressed/angsty/angry/a bit blue and I wondered what you guys do to cheer yourselves up.
Here's my list.
1. loud, happy, fun music. you know. the type that makes your butt bounce on its own.
2. CHOCOLATE with caramel, almonds, or by itself. either dark or milk.
3. Ice cream. mochi, green tea, mint chocolate chip, or mocha almond fudge. good stuff
4. dancing. to above said music or anything i can get my groove to.
5. reading smut. esp. if people i know/met have written it. makes me hot inside.
6. reading in general is a stress reliever for me. i'm such a bookworm.
7. ANIME because i love my 2d hot boys. and the story helps....showcase them. heheh.
8. World of Warcraft. yes. i know. a computer geeky thing for me. but it helps. to get all my frustrations and kill the damn baddies. it's almost as fun for me as playing the x-box/ps2. plus, i've got optomistic friends on there helping me out.
9. Long walks to wherever will always help clear my mind. not necessarily make the decisions but will lay it out in much clearer context.
10. cuddling. which would be great and lead to some awesome sex if i had someone in my life. but as it is, my teddy bear does a wonderful job of comforting.
11. Tea. yummmmmmm
12. Tight, warm hugs because i live for these from my loved ones. because i grew up in a non-tactile family, i crave these for affirmation/assurance/love/care/groping/warmth.
hmm...that looks like it for my list.
What's ur favorite things to do to cheer yourself up?

Date: 2005-04-15 05:47 pm (UTC)2. listening to musicals - i'm a musical fanatic. i'll put in RENT or, if i really need to laugh, My Fair Lady. if it's RENT, i dance all over the house, singing at the top of my lungs.
3. go for a walk - when i need to think something out, the change of scenery seems to help. also, that little bit of exercise makes me feel a bit better. if i'm angry, i go for a run.
4. watch my buffy dvds - joss whedon can make me laugh no matter what mood i'm in.
5. watch my sports night dvds - see comment above. exchange aaron sorkin for joss whedon.
6. write poetry - sometimes it helps to put the thoughts in some sort of order, use them to create.
7. journaling - it gets the thoughts out of my head and onto paper, but it doesn't require the same presence of mind that poetry does.
8. singing - if i'm really emotional over something, i'll just start singing my thoughts. somehow it helps to let the emotion run out.
9. coffee - because everything can be cured with a nice hot cup of coffee.
10. cleaning - it turns the emotion into something useful.
11. acting - if i don't have a play to work on at the moment, i'll work on my monologues. sometimes it's nice to become someone else for a while when life is too much.
12. call my little brother - he's my best friend on the planet, and i know he won't judge me or get annoyed. he also seems to get when i just want to laugh, and he can get me giggling when even aaron sorkin misses the mark.

Date: 2005-04-15 11:02 pm (UTC)1. Shopping - go with friends, hit all the little second hand stores down town where you can buy an outfit for like three bucks.
2. Go out with friends - Just to dinner or a movie. They always have ways of getting me out of my bad mood.
3. Spending time with my family - They don't always ask questions when I don't want them to. They just help me get my mind off things.
4. Read, write, or do homework - something that demands my concentration.
5. Soak in the bath tub and listen to music - this is best when no one is home so I can just relax.
6. Listening to hard rock - this is only if I am in an angry mood. I can listen to something like rob zombie and dance around to it, using up some excess energy, and releasing some of that anger.
7. Go to the coffee shop/library that we have in town - it is a nice, quiet little place where you can grab a yummy treat and just relax with a good book. They even have a nice jazz band that plays there on weekends, and open poetry sessions once a month.
8. Scary movies and pop corn - suddenly your problems don't seem as important since you don't have a psycho zombie killer after you.
9. Beat on the punching bag/go for a walk/exercise - do something physical so you don't have to think, just use up some energy.
10. Rant about life over the phone or on the net - it's always nice to share your problems with people you know won't judge you.
Well, there's my list. Of course there is still much chocolate thrown in there, because everyone needs a comfort food.
